Hi everyone,

I have been using this site for awhile but haven't posted. I am 25 weeks pregnant with my first, and conceived using IVF on the first attempt (this was done because of my older hisband's vasectomy). I have been on a competitive rowing team for the last six years, and I added Crossfit in Feb 2011. I was in the best shape of my life when I decided to get pregnant. The IVF process forced me to start backing off, and though I have continued to exercise I am nowhere near what I used to do. I was going to my box, but I just decided this week to stop my membership and use the CF mom workouts at the local Y which is closer to my house. I am now reading about people who kept going to their box until almost the end of pregnancy and I am wondering if you kept doing the classes and scaled / modified or if you went and did your own thing. I found that I reached the point where I was modifying too much and it didn't make sense to attend class and I didn't want to drive all the way to the box (it is kind of a hike) for a shorter workout. Maybe I am being a wimp and I can really do more than I think? Any advice on this one? My coaches and the members at the box are very supportive and encouraging and they liked to see me coming in, though as my belly grows I get more self conscious. Thanks for your input!

You really have to decide what is best for you and what you are comfortable with. I am also 25 weeks and am still going 5 times a week and usually scale on weight and certain movements that I can't do because of the belly.

Congrats on your successful IVF.

I am 15 weeks after my 3rd ivf (1st failed, 2nd successful) let me tell you that this being my third I find myself way more relaxed. Plus I was such a baby my first pregnancy I thought, i walked, squatted and ring rowed, that was about it

I still go 5 days a week. Sometimes I scale the WOD that's posted, sometimes I do Crossfit mom, sometimes I do not scale at all. Just depends how I feel.

I am still doing the same weights for 1,2,3 etc rep maxes, but for metcons I have lowered them a bit. I take more breaks, or I do things slower.

If you like your box and the people you workout with, I would stay but I like the familiarity of my gym.

I am going to do as much as I can as long as I can, I am loving being this strong and able while I am pregnant. plus I am eating like crap so this at least makes me feel like I am doing something.

Good luck!

I'm 34 weeks and still going to my box. I have to adapt a lot of things, but there are bumpers and things at the box that no other gym in my area would have. I'm still lifting, though obviously lighter, but for a 75# shoulder press or something I really want the opportunity to drop the bar if I want to. You can't do that at most Y's.

As far as scaling and such goes, I'm still doing (mostly) the box workouts, but doing pregnant burpees, singles instead of double unders, and so on. I still do the full workout, most of the time. Our box tends to do a strength component and then a WOD, so for me that's really helpful.

I agree with the PP that it's really just a personal choice for you. I don't have any experience with IVF, but I do know that I was much more cautious at the beginning of the pregnancy than I am now in the sense that I now know better what are normal aches and pains, what are round ligament issues, what Braxton Hicks feel like, and so on. As you get more comfortable with your workouts you may want to go back to the box, so that's always an option.

Good luck!
