Hi. I just found out that we are pregnant with our 3rd (a bit of a shock). I have been doing crossfit (off and on) for almost 3 years, but never tried crossfitting during pregnancy. I was super sick with the first two pregnancies, like puking the entire 40 weeks. This time around, I am still super nauseous but I am trying to suck it up and still crossfit. I am about 10 weeks and the last few times I did a WOD, my nausea stopped during the workout. Definitely more out of breath, but didn't feel like upchucking. Has anyone else experienced this? Maybe the intensity of the work out is so much that it takes your mind off of that awful feeling? Or is it biological?

Also, I am over 35, so my OB is being extra cautious and conservative. Anyone else who is almost 40 and pregnant who has doctors telling them to be more careful due to age? Also, is anyone trying to stick to the paleo diet? Would love to share this journey with other mommies to be. I'm so thrilled to have found this site. Thank you!

My nausea in the first trimester went away when I worked out. It also worked for the pesky late first trimester headaches I struggled with. Sadly, both nausea and headaches would come back within an hour or so of working out, but at least it was some relief. I've noticed that WODing (and working out in general) helps with cold symptoms too (stuffy nose, etc), so I just assumed the decrease in nausea and so on during pregnancy was just related to increased blood flow to the whole body. I don't know, but it sure worked for me!

I can't help with the older stuff, and paleo wasn't possible for me due to serious meat aversions, but I think there are some folks on here still paleo-ing away. Good luck and welcome! Oh, and congrats on your third!

Hi. I am 38 and 18 weeks pregnant with my 2nd. I didn't discover crossfit until 3 months after my 1st was born, although, I did workout until the very end. Nothing has changed now as far as my mid-wife's concerns. They know I run and lift weights (I don't even want to try to explain crossfit) and they encourage me to continue. I don't know why any Dr. would want you to stop, unless there was a specific reason.
Paleo was out the door for me at around 7 weeks... nothing about it was appealing, in fact, it was nauseating! I wanted everything non-paleo (bread, cheese, pasta). I am finally back to eating a little more normal and hope to be full paleo soon.
Good luck and congratulations!

I'm not "older" but I stopped paleo efforts as soon as I found out I was pregnant. Honeynut Cheerios win every morning over the hard-boiled eggs, and my grilled chicken and broccoli doesn't taste the same now without some bbq sauce. So, I still try to be paleo-ish, but give myself a lot of lee-way.

As for your nausea, I think it's just different for everybody. I haven't been nauseous at all for weeks, and when I was, I think it was actually attributable to 1) the pre-natal vitamins, which I usually take at night, but one time I took them in the morning and vomited them up immediately thereafter, and 2) the flu, which I got right after I found out I was pregnant. It was not a fun opening to my first pregnancy. For about a week there, I thought my life was over and there was no way I could endure this for another 9 months. Thank goodness all of that went away and now I feel great-- no nausea, no vomiting, no heartburn, etc. I'd say it's genetics, but my own mother threw up for 5 months with my older brother and myself.

Good luck!

Thank you everyone for you comments! And congratulations to you all too! THe more I read on this web site, the better I feel about going against my doctor's very conservative orders on excercising while pregnant. She says walking, swimming and light jogging is fine, but lifting heavy weights could put baby in danger or duress. I think I may just not tell my OB anymore what I'm doing at the gym. It sounds like all of your OBs are very supportive with your crossfitting. Did any of them tell you of any warning signs to watch out for, just in case?

Paleo has definitely been out the door for me this past week. I've been super naseous (mostly during the afternoon and at night), so pasta and pretzels have been my meal and snacks of choice. Thankfully when I crossfit, the naseua stops. I also just got a prescription for Zofran, which has helped so much.

Please keep me posted on all of your progress. It's so great to have such support.
