I work out in a crossfit gym that does not have AC. I live in a midwest city that gets very high temps and humidity in the summer, making for hot conditions in the gym. My husband and I only attend the morning classes (5:30am) so that makes the conditions better, but no AC still makes for a hot and humid workout from about mid/late May - August.

My dr started talking to me about limiting my outdoor activities in the summer in order to keep my body temp at a reasonable level. She did not want me to "overheat" as that can be damaging to the baby. I haven't confessed to her that my gym doesn't have AC - there's been no reason to yet as the temps have been cool. Before I have that conversation, I was just curious if anyone had thoughts on the overheating issue - how to manage, will it really matter if I'm still watching intensity? Anyone else have this issue?

You may have to slow down even more and/or take more breaks if it gets too warm, but try working out next to a fan if possible, and really stay on top of being hydrated. That's about all you can do, but I think 5:30 am WODs will be safest for you. I know it will still be warm, but not harmful. :)

Hello. I live in the South and can only work out in the afternoon/evening. It is extremely hot! I keep reading everywhere "do not overheat" but my question is how do you KNOW if you are overheating?? I mean, I sweat a lot during my workouts, but I drink a lot of water/coconut water as well. If I'm not getting light headed or nauseous can I be sure the baby isn't cooking in there?

Pay attention to how you feel. If you feel nauseous or dizzy that's a sign you're overheating. Also, have someone watch you and tell you if get more red and/or sweaty than normal. Continue to stay on top of being hydrated and work out near a fan if there is one. If you get overheated, you should feel like something is not right and you want to rest.
