Hi! I'm a little over 5 weeks with my first pregnancy, and have been crossfitting over three years. I WOD 4-5 x week. I'm excited to keep crossfitting through pregnancy. My box has already had one baby, so my coaches have experience with scaling and limitations; although, I have not told them yet. My question is whether it is my imagination or something physical that made my WOD harder today. (5 rounds of 3 minutes of work, 1 minute rest for as many rounds as possible of 10 back squat (95), 10 burpee + box jump (20")) Do I really just suck at burpee box jumps, or is there something I should be aware of? I had the sense that I just couldn't get my breath back as fast as normal. At this stage in the game, I thought I would basically be WODing normally for a few more weeks. Thoughts?

Hi. I am pregnant with my 2nd and the first thing I noticed with both was my endurance level dropped dramatically. Exercises that were easy to me, have now become that much more difficult. I still do them, I'm just slower. Don't worry, it's normal. It's just a reminder that we need to take the intensity down a notch.

Congratulations!

Totally normal. One reason we say to take the intensity down a notch. In the first trimester especially, you will be tired and out of breath more easily. This is because your blood volume has doubled and your body is trying to adjust. The second trimester is usually the best as far as energy and stamina for working out. :) You really should tell your Coach because it is a liability and safety issue. Just ask them to keep the news private until you are ready to announce it.

Thanks for the great responses! I told my coach this morning, and she is very excited to work with me to make sure everything is safe. She has a lot of experience, so I know I am in good hands. I did not know about the blood increase. Pregnancy is fascinating.
