Hi there fellow crossfitters!

Writing in to introduce myself. I am a mother of a nearly 3 year old daughter and attempting to conceive our second child; I've been doing Xfit 1x/week at our local box and doing 2-3 workouts at home. Loving it so far! And very glad to see this website.

I do have some concerns about scaling down with a pregnancy, mostly in terms of first trimester privacy in our small town. This blog will be a good resource for many things, I can see.

I've spent 30 minutes or so perusing the chit-chats and already have one question (perhaps I should put it there?) There is a lot of discussion about not getting out of breath due to potential hypoxia for baby. My understanding is that athletes don't actually decrease their oxygen saturation even while working at their hardest. Has anyone tested O2 saturation on exercising pregnant women (I'm sure they have)? My guess is that if they are don't have asthma, then their O2 will maintain 98-100%. I'd love to see what research is out there on this. Maybe even do a study ourselves if it hasn't been done.

Love to hear your thoughts. Glad to be in touch.

Best,
Ulumom

I'm sure you've heard the advice, "You should be able to talk/sing during your workout." I think a big part of it is to not overheat, and to not overexert yourself since now you have another life inside of you (which requires a lot from your body!).
I found this little piece online, "Because your heart rate is directly tied to your baby's health, making sure it doesn't get too elevated is key to keeping your baby safe while you're exercising. As you work out, normal blood flow shifts away from the uterus and your baby and to your internal organs. Working out too hard can cause too much of that blood flow to move away from the uterus, putting your baby at risk." If you're working out so hard that you can hardly breath, but not ideal for the baby. I believe first trimester is the most likely time to miscarry, as well, if you're exerting yourself too hard. I'm obviously no expert, this is all stuff I have either researched, read in an article, or have been told by other specialists and experts, so anyone correct me if my information is wrong!

Well, I'm back~ it has been awhile. I'm 13 weeks pregnant now and just feeling energetic enough to get back into crossfit. Great to be here!
